A holding company for durable money
Byzantine Solidus, Inc. is a holding company in Miami. We build and hold the companies that make digital money durable — starting with SafeBank. The model is old and deliberately unfashionable: own good businesses, support the operators running them, and never be forced to sell.
Stability over spectacle
The solidus outlived every emperor whose portrait it carried. That is the correct ratio of product to founder, and it is the first thing we look for. Financial infrastructure earns trust by being boring at the moments when everything around it is not; the companies we hold are built so the product survives its personalities — including ours.
In practice that means we favor revenue over narrative, uptime over launch events, and systems that degrade gracefully over ones that demo beautifully. Spectacle is a cost center. Stability compounds.
Engineering over promises
Trust is not announced. It is constructed, tested, and left running until nobody remembers doubting it. Our members have spent their careers on exactly that construction — payment rails at Worldpay and Paysafe, identity and verification systems, fiat on-ramps for the largest exchanges, operating companies that move real goods across real borders. Durable money fails at the seams, so the seams are where we put the engineering.
The same standard applies to claims. Where a promise can be replaced by a proof — an attestation, an audit, a mechanism that cannot quietly change — we replace it. The solidus did not ask to be believed; it could be weighed.
Decades over quarters
Seven hundred years is the benchmark. Against it, a fiscal quarter rounds to zero. A holding company structure is how we make that arithmetic operational: no fund clock, no forced exits, no pressure to harvest a business at precisely the moment it should be reinvesting in its own durability.
What we offer the companies we hold is patience with standards — permanent capital, operating experience, and a parent whose only deadline is the one the solidus set. What we ask in return is that they build like the mint: keep the promise structural, and keep it every year.
